Rare Luis Buñuel Photographs on View at the Spanish Film Library Posted: 06 Jul 2008 10:50 PM CDT MADRID - Luis Buñuel is, without a doubt, one of the best known movie directors. A lot has been written about him and many exhibitions on him have been organized. But,there are some aspects of his works that are not known, and we have not resisted temptation to show some of these. In the archives of the Spanish Film Library, there is a collection of photographs made by him when he was looking for exterior locations for the films he made in Mexico and the organizers wanted to show this work that illustrates the work he did prior to making a movie, and that also shows us another face of Buñuel.

Smart Museum of Art exhibits ' Images of New York ' by John Sloan Posted: 06 Jul 2008 10:34 PM CDT Chicago, IL - John Sloan's images of New York helped define the city in the popular imagination. In gritty depictions of urban life, Sloan celebrated the metropolis of New York by focusing on street scenes, elevated trains, public spaces, and the lives of ordinary Americans. Yet Sloan's vision was a subjective one, tied to his particular observations of the neighborhoods in which he lived and the individuals he encountered. More than a series of distinct locations, Sloan's images of New York reflect the artist’s own movement through and experience of the city. On view through 14 September 2008.
